THE INAUGURATION OF KARATE CLASSES - St Anthony's Church School

St. Anthony Church School introduced Karate classes for the first time at the beginning of the academic year 2026-27. The classes were inaugurated during the first week of June 2026 as part of the school's initiative to promote the overall development, physical fitness, confidence, and safety awareness of its students.

One of the major objectives of introducing Karate in the school is to equip students with basic self-defence skills. In today's world, it is important for children to be aware of their personal safety and to develop the confidence to respond appropriately in difficult or threatening situations. Karate training helps students become more alert, develop quick reflexes, and understand the importance of protecting themselves while also teaching them that martial arts should be practised responsibly and never used for aggression or intimidation.

Apart from self-defence, Karate contributes significantly to the physical development of children. Regular practice improves flexibility, balance, stamina, strength, agility, body coordination, and overall fitness. The exercises also encourage students to remain active and develop healthy physical habits from a young age.

Karate also plays an important role in developing discipline, concentration, patience, perseverance, and self-confidence. Students learn to listen carefully to instructions, follow rules, respect their instructors and fellow learners, and practise repeatedly until they master a particular skill. The structured nature of Karate training encourages students to set goals, overcome challenges, and appreciate the value of consistent effort. These qualities can positively influence their academic performance and behaviour in school as well.
